Beacon Councils – Positive youth engagement
The eight local councils which were awarded Beacon Council status for
‘Positive Youth Engagement’ in March 2006 are:

Gateshead Metropolitan District Council

City of Wakefield Metropolitan Borough Council

West Sussex County Council

Derwentside District Council

Lancashire County Council

London Borough of Lewisham

South Norfolk District Council and Norfolk County Council

Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council
The eight winners are a broad spectrum of different types of authority,
from London metropolitan to the very rural, with six of the nine
English regions represented.
The positive youth engagement beacons will work jointly and individually
to:

provide direct support and practical examples to assist those working
with young people in a range of settings enabling them to address the
Hear By Right framework

provide direct support and practical examples of how to engage senior
decision makers in local authorities with regard to the youth agenda
-
work with national bodies, using the combined experience of beacon
authorities to provide advice and recommendations to inform emerging
policy and practice
