Consultation on the Comprehensive Area Assessment launched
The Audit Commission have launched a consultation on proposals for Comprehensive Area Assessment (CAA) framework to be introduced in April 2009. The CAA is part of the new performance framework for monitoring and regulating local government, and will replace the current Comprehensive Performance Assessment.
CAA will be an innovative way of drawing together information to show how well residents are being served by their local public services. It will give people a clear and impartial assessment of how successfully local organisations are working together to improve the quality of life in their areas. CAA will be conducted annually and will have two main elements:
- An area assessment that will look at how well local public services are delivering better results for local people in local priorities, such as health, economic prospects and community safety, and how likely they are to improve in the future
- Organisational assessments of individual public bodies, including councils, fire and rescue services, primary care trusts,
and police authorities.
In addition, performance of all areas against the 198 measures in the National Indicator set will be published annually and will be used to inform both the area and organisational assessments.
The OTS is encouraging third sector organisations to take part in the consultation which will help shape the final CAA framework. You can find the consultation documents and details on how to respond on the Audit Commission website: http://www.audit-commission.gov.uk/caa/consultation.asp.
Consultation on CAA will be open until 5pm on Monday 20 October 2008.
