Ministry of Justice launches consultation on third sector strategy

20 December 2007

The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) has launched a consultation on their draft third sector strategy.

The MoJ is keen to engage better with voluntary and community organisations, charities, social enterprises and other third sector organisations.

This consultation document aims to improve relations between the third sector and the various different parts of the MoJ. The benefits of improved relations will hopefully lead to MoJ services that are better than now and more cost-effective, whilst retaining impartiality. Some of the key areas and services that will benefit from better third sector relations are court activity, legal aid, victims and witnesses, including victims of domestic violence, and the overarch of improving the public's understanding of the justice system.

The National Offender Management Service, part of the MoJ, published on 27 November 2007 a separate third sector action plan for consultation. This will contribute to the overall MoJ strategy.

Responses to the MoJ consultation should be received by 20 March 2008.
