Social investment and access to finance programmes
As well as grant schemes, there are other possible sources of investment for third sector organisations:
- Social Investment
Social investment is investment made for a social purpose in organisations committed to delivering benefits society and the environment. This investment – whether from grants, loans, equity investments or other emerging forms – can enable third sector organisations, including social enterprises, to develop their operations and become more sustainable.
- Risk Capital Fund for Social Enterprise
The Office of the Third Sector's £10m risk capital investment fund aims to improve social enterprises’ access to private and independent investment.
- Social Enterprise Access to Investment programme
Details of a year long Social Enterprise Access to Investment programme to help social enterprises make the most of the new investment that will be available. The overarching aim of this will be to find ways for social enterprises to gain the advice and support they need from Investment Readiness Providers to access new forms of growth finance.
- Social Investment Wholesale Bank
The Government has been working with the bank and building society sector to design a scheme to allow money in dormant accounts to be reinvested in society, while protecting consumers' rights to reclaim their money at any time.
- Futurebuilders
Futurebuilders is an innovative government-backed investment programme that provides loan and grant finance to third sector organisations to help them bid for, win and deliver public service contracts.
- Adventure Capital Fund
The Adventure Capital Fund was launched in December 2002 with the aim of delivering a new form of long-term investment into community enterprises.
