The Ministry of Justice has completed a consultation on the draft Charity Tribunal Rules.
The Charity Tribunal was created by the Charities Act 2006 to hear appeals against Charity Commission decisions and to enable references to be made by the Attorney General and the Charity Commission (with the consent of the Attorney General) to consider wider questions to help clarify or develop charity law.
The Charity Tribunal Rules will govern the proceedings before the new tribunal. They will ensure that proceedings before the tribunal are handled as fairly, efficiently and quickly as possible. The rules are expected to come into force in early 2008, at the same time as the relevant provisions in the Charities Act 2006.
The questions are given in full in the consultation document.
The consultation closed on Wednesday 7 November 2007. The Ministry of Justice is analysing the responses it received, and will set out a summary of consultation responses and the next steps for the Tribunal Rules shortly.
