Prime Minister details progress on Social Exclusion
Dear all,
The Prime Minister today outlined the Government's overall progress in
the last ten years, as well as recent work in tackling social exclusion,
with the publication of ‘Reaching Out: Progress on Social
Exclusion
’.
Last year's Action Plan highlighted that opportunities have improved
for the majority, particularly the poorest, since 1997. This success
contrasts with a small section of society that still are not benefiting
from these opportunities and who continue to experience deep and persistent
exclusion. The action plan was the start of a renewed drive by Government
to improve life chances for the most excluded and deprived groups through
strategic and targeted intervention.
Today's publication details progress in tackling poverty and social
exclusion over the last decade, as well as the progress already made on the
commitments in the Action Plan published last September:
-
Nurse family partnership pilots aiming to tackle exclusion in the early
years of life.
-
Multi–systemic therapy pilots providing support to young adults with
complex needs.
-
Pilots targeting improved service provision to adults facing chronic
exclusion.
The next steps for the Social Exclusion Task Force will be:
-
Families at risk review – we are carrying out an extensive,
cross–Whitehall review on excluded and at–risk families.
-
Performance management – we are considering how a cross–government Public
Service Agreement (PSA) could help excluded adults and families.
We hope you will find today's report informative.
