Families at Risk Review: Background analysis
The Social Exclusion Taskforce conducted the Families at Risk Review from 2007 to early 2008. This work is now being taken forward by the Department for Children, Schools and Families, including management of the Family Pathfinder programme.
The Families at Risk Review has been informed by extensive research and consultation. This has included three regional stakeholder conferences, original analysis of the Families and Children Study, qualitative and desk based research, local area studies, a call for evidence and a literature review. This is in addition to visits, briefings and numerous meetings with stakeholders both inside Government and in local and third sector organisations.

Three regional conferences were held in March 2007, to gather ideas and evidence of innovative local practice.

Between February and June 2007, the Ministry of Justice and Department for Children Schools and Families carried out a joint priority review to consider how to support children of prisoners to achieve better outcomes. The Social Exclusion Task Force commissioned the University of Birmingham to undertake a Literature Review looking at different conceptual models of a whole families approach being taken forward both nationally and internationally.
