About us

The Social Exclusion Task Force was set up in June 2006. Its mission is to extend the opportunities enjoyed by the vast majority of people in the UK today to those whose lives have been characterised by deprivation and exclusion. We work closely with all government departments to ensure that the needs of the most socially excluded are addressed.

The Task Force is based in the Cabinet Office and reports to Ed Miliband, Minister for the Cabinet Office. He is supported on the social exclusion agenda by Phil Hope, Parliamentary Secretary. The Director of the Task Force is Naomi Eisenstadt.

The Social Exclusion Task Force was preceded by the former Social Exclusion Unit which was originally established in 1997. Reports published by the Social Exclusion Unit from 1997 until 2006 can be found on our publications page
