Emergency Preparedness provides guidance on Part 1 of the Civil Contingencies Act 2004, its associated Regulations and non-statutory arrangements.
Emergency Preparedness and the accompanying document Emergency Response and Recovery, sets out the generic framework for civil protection. It deals with pre-emergency elements of integrated emergency management – anticipation, assessment, prevention and preparation.
The standard structure for most chapters of Emergency Preparedness includes details of the legislative requirements of the Act and the Regulations. They also offer good practice guidance on how Category 1 and 2 responders can carry out their duties to comply with the legislation; and provide useful information that is not governed by the legislation.

The Civil Contingencies Act Enhancement Programme (CCAEP) completed the review of the Emergency Preparedness guidance document in March 2012. The revised chapters are all available on line, and for download, on both the Cabinet Office UK Resilience website and the National Resilience Extranet website.
