Leader of the House of Lords and Lord President of the Council: The Rt Hon The Baroness Royall of Blaisdon

- Leading the Government front Bench in the House of Lords
- Conduct of Government business in the Lords (jointly responsible with the Lords Chief Whip)
- Repeating the Prime Minister's statements in the Lords and speaking in the House on particular important debates
- Giving guidance to the House on matters of order and procedure
- Taking part in formal ceremonies in the House, such as the State Opening of Parliament
- Chair, Board of Trustees for Chequers and Dorneywood
- As Lord President of the Council, responsible for the work of the Privy Council office. Presides at meetings of The Privy Council, signs draft Orders of Council, exercises on behalf of Her Majesty The Queen the jurisdiction of Visitor in respect of 17 Universities, is ex-officio Trustee for the National Portrait Gallery, and is Government spokesperson in the Lords on Privy Council, equalities and human rights issues.
