National Weights and Measures
Laboratory
The National Weights and Measures Laboratory administers all aspects of
weights and measures regulation. It is responsible for the approval of gas
and electricity meters for Ofgem and is the Enforcement Authority for the
Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and
Electronic Equipment (RoHS) Regulations.

UK Intellectual Property Office
The UK Intellectual Property Office (IPO) became an operating name of The
Patent Office on 2 April 2007. The UK IPO administers Patents, Trade Marks,
Designs and Copyright. It is also responsible for developing UK policy and
representing the UK in international negotiations on intellectual property.
The aim of the Office is to facilitate growth in industry and commerce
through the establishment of intellectual property rights relating to
patents, trade marks, registered designs and copyright.
