Standard and Waiver path routes
If you have three or more years’ relevant Infosec experience, you can apply through the ‘waiver’ route. Less experienced candidates will need to follow the standard route. The paths are the same for all certificates.
We recommend you complete the standard route within one year; but we allow up to two years between registering with the scheme and completing your certificate submission because we recognise that work comes first.
To be eligible for the Certificate, you must hold relevant UK Government clearances and be involved in implementing UK Government Infosec policy.
The standard route
For those with less than three years’ experience of implementing UK Government Information Assurance policy. Full information is given on the Information for candidates page
The waiver route
The waiver route recognises that some individuals already have considerable knowledge and experience and so omits the requirement for formal learning required in the standard route.
The waiver route does, however, require a full account of some recent Information Assurance activity in which you were involved, in order to assess your capability.
You may be eligible for Certification via the waiver route if you can prove a minimum 3 years’ experience of implementing UK Government Information Assurance policy. Exceptionally this may have been accumulated within the last 5 years.
From 1st June 2007, waiver route candidates may complete their application by either of two methods.
1. Dissertation process (traditional method)
This must be submitted by 31st December 2008.
As part of your application to register, you supply a list of ITPC core competencies, with a brief description of how you have met each one (in effect, a set of satisfied target competencies), then after registration you produce a work-based dissertation, which is the same as for the training route, ie a reasoned case of 3500–5000 words.
Full information is given on the Information for candidates
2. Competency-based form
At the initial application stage, you complete the Application form competency annex, which requires a specific relevant example against each ITPC core competency to demonstrate how you have achieved it. The example should give a reasoned case of around 350–500 words indicating the situation, what you did, why and how you did it and what the outcome was. All examples must be within the last three years, and you may use the same project for more than one competency, although together they should show the breadth and depth of your experience in implementing UK Government Information Assurance policy. A dissertation will not be required.
