About the ITPC scheme
The Infosec Training Paths & Competencies Scheme was launched in May
2001. It is run by CSIA, part of the
Cabinet Office, and managed by representatives of the UK Security Authorities, the National School of
Government and UK academic
institutions that offer MSc
qualifications in information security.
The Scheme has been developed for information security professionals who
manage protectively marked information in the departments and agencies of
the UK Government, its accredited
contractors and related sectors, including police forces and CLAS consultants.
The ITPC
Certificate
The ITPC
Certificate is awarded after formal training and a period of work
experience. This work experience is aimed at achieving a set of agreed
Target Competencies, based upon a relevant Core Competencies Profile
described in the
Infosec Competencies matrix.
Being awarded an ITPC Certificate shows
you have proved you have a sound understanding of UK Government Infosec policy and best practice,
and demonstrated a risk management approach in your work. The Certificate
is recognised across Government, its accredited contractors and public
sector bodies such as police forces that manage protectively marked
information. It is also accepted by leading UK universities as part of enrolment for Infosec
MSc programmes.
ITPC Certification is a central recommendation of UK Government policy. The Manual of Protective
Security states that ITPC is the preferred
initial development route for information security specialists.
Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
On January 1st 2006 ITPC launched its CPD programme for all ITPC
certificate holders.
The ITPC certificate proves your competencies and knowledge at a specified
time. CPD lets you show how you have kept your competence up to date and
how you have developed new skills.
Full details are in the CPD page of this
website.
