The Civil Contingencies Secretariat – established in July 2001 – sits within the Cabinet Office. CCS work in partnership with government departments, the devolved administrations and key stakeholders to enhance the UK's ability to prepare for, respond to and recover from emergencies
CCS aims to ensure that the UK and its communities remain a safe and secure place to live and work, by effectively identifying and managing the risk of emergencies, and maintaining world–class capabilities to respond to and recover from emergencies.
CCS reports to Ministers through Sir Richard Mottram KCB, Permanent Secretary, Intelligence, Security and Resilience. The Minister for the Cabinet Office answers for the work of the Secretariat in Parliament.
