Identifying your key audiences

Who do I want to talk to?

It is important to target and prioritise your audiences in order to communicate as effectively as possible.

You will want to tell your staff, but you will also want to use your success to boost your credibility with your users.

However, it may be necessary for you to divide your users into different categories. For example, if you are a school you may wish to tell the staff, pupils and parents but you may also consider the local community as an indirect audience.

Or if you are a large and complex organisation, you may have many tiers of management and internal customers.

Think about what is most important to each audience and how each audience wishes to be communicated with.

If in doubt, get a few people together and write down, whom you need to talk to, then think about how it is best to communicate with them.
