Police and Justice Services

Devon and Cornwall Constabulary

Devon and Cornwall Constabulary recently applied for the Charter Mark and were successful for the fourth time. They continued to look to Charter Mark to focus their service on customers and citizens.

'It is important that we weave the Charter Mark principles into everything that we do. By integrating them into our planning process, for example, to help establish a set of Force Values, means that the principles of the Charter Mark have helped to shape the direction of the Force.'

Charter Mark Delivers Results in Civil and Family Courts

To view results of the survey carried out by ORC the respected market research company relating to customer service standards within the Court Service, plus additional comments from individual newly certificated courts.

The Police Charter Mark Guidance was developed through collaboration between HMIC and the Charter Mark Team with the intention of supporting a customer-focused approach by Police Forces. The Guidance is intended for potential Charter Mark users and applicants from the Police Service.

We hope that the Guidance will be of use to Police Forces that are considering using the Charter Mark Standard either through self-assessment or through the formal assessment process.

The Police Charter Mark Guidance should be used in conjunction with the Charter Mark Standard booklet and the self-assessment tool. It is intended as 'advice' and to support the use of Charter Mark. We hope that it will be a helpful guide for Police Forces.

Our initial feedback has been very positive and therefore we have decided to make the Guidance available through the Charter Mark website in a pdf format. If you cannot access this document, please contact the Charter Mark Team and we will send you the Guidance in an alternative format.

We would like to get your feedback on the Guidance. Please contact Lynnette.Crowley@cabinet-office.x.gsi.gov.uk with your views.
